COVID POLICY

This document has been created to support Angelfish Swimmers’ existing terms and conditions, taking into account the new guidelines and legislation for COVID-19, to ensure that Angelfish Swimmers operate in a COVID safe and secure way as required by Swim England, The Swimming Teachers Association and the Public Health Authority.

BEFORE YOUR LESSON

Please do not attend lessons if you, or anyone in your household is showing any symptoms of COVID-19 (high temperature, new continuous cough, a loss of/or change to sense of smell or taste).

On arrival at Combe Ridge pool, parents, carers and children over the age of 11 must put on their own face mask and wear it at all times whilst in the building. Masks can only be removed once clients have exited the premises. Children taking part in a swimming lesson do not need to wear a face mask.

Any parent/carer swimming in a toddler lesson does not need to wear a face mask whilst in the water.

To ease social distancing, only one adult per swimmer is permitted to support and spectate poolside.

We are no longer able to loan goggles, hats, swimsuits or towels. Please ensure you have a full kit to swim before leaving for your lesson. If possible, please wear slip on shoes, crocs or flip-flops to facilitate quick and easy changing.

No food or drinks (excluding water bottles) will be allowed poolside.

ARRIVING AT THE POOL

Hand sanitiser must be used by everyone before entering the pool building.

Shoe racks, baskets and clothes hooks will not be in use.

Please ensure wherever possible that children have their costumes on under their clothes, onesie or dressing gown when arriving at the pool.

Swimmers must shower before the lesson. This is to maximise the amount of free chlorine to disinfect any germs and viruses and not concentrate on sun cream, toiletries, food or sweat.

Please keep all items of clothing /footwear in a bag with you at all times.

If your child needs to use the toilet please use the antibacterial spray and paper towels provided to wipe down after use.

Children will be asked to change poolside before and after the lesson, to avoid use of changing rooms. This is to reduce potential clustering and time spent within the pool building as well as minimising surfaces being touched.  Please ensure that all hair is tied back and googles are on ready to start the lesson.

If you are a parent/carer swimming with your Toddler at Combe Ridge pool, you are able to use changing rooms for your modesty. Please try and change as quickly and use the antibacterial spray provided to wipe down surfaces after use.  Toddler classes have been reduced to just 3 bubbles to enable social distancing in the pool.  We have converted the kit room into a third changing area so each client has their own space.

The pool will use a one-way system to enter and exit the water to avoid clustering on the poolside. You will be directed initially by a member of the team, and reminded weekly by posters and signs of these new systems.

In line with social distancing guidelines, seating will be provided at the shallow end of Combe Ridge pool for one adult spectator per swimmer. Antibacterial spray will be available so that you can wipe down your seat before use.

DURING YOUR SWIMMING LESSON

Please ensure your child is socially distanced when poolside and only approaches the steps and enters the water when invited by their teacher. Swimmers will be reminded of the new pool rules and the importance of keeping themselves and their families safe.

Swimming equipment will be sanitised before, during and after each session using chlorinated pool water.  Each swimmer will have their own equipment and will be assigned an area of the pool to swim in for each lesson.

Teachers will maintain a safe distance from the class participants. When required to support/adjust Swimmers' body positions, they will do this using safe teaching positions, avoiding being face-to-face with any child.

For your swimmers’ safety they may require additional buoyancy aids to allow teachers to be appropriately distanced.

Many swimmers will not have swum for nearly 6 months. We understand that  such a long break from structured tuition will require some initial time to be spent on re-socialising groups, ensuring children feel safe and are happy to be in the water.

It is likely that many swimmers will have lost fitness and certain aquatic skills.  Lesson plans will focus on increasing children’s stamina and cardio fitness, whilst reminding them of stroke technique. Drills will also be broken up with fun activities and games as we understand that initially our swimmers will have reduced concentration, having been out of the education system for a prolonged period of time.

During the first few weeks, teachers will assess levels of confidence and ability to ensure classes are grouped appropriately.

AFTER YOUR LESSONS AND LEAVING THE POOL

All swimmers are politely requested to change into a hooded towel/onesie or robe after their lesson ready to travel home. This is essential to limit the amount of time individuals are in the pool building and for the changeover between lessons to be as efficient as possible. We aim to reduce client contact with other swimmers wherever possible.

Please ensure all belongings are taken home with you.  Lost property will be kept in a sealed bag and stored at the pool.  Please contact jen@angelfishswimmers.co.uk to arrange collection.

KEEPING YOU SAFE

A full COVID-19 Risk Assessment of Combe Ridge pool has been carried out.

We will be increasing the amount of cleaning carried out at all facilities, ensuring all touch points are regularly sanitised.

Antibacterial spray and disposable towels will be available at all pools for your use. We actively encourage you to please clean your chair or changing area after you have finished.

All minor first aid treatment should be dealt with by a parent/carer. Should a more serious incident occur; swimming teachers will use personal protective equipment such as a face mask, gloves and protective face shield for CPR.

Teaching practices and systems of operation will be updated as appropriate in line with swim England and STA guidance.

Please do not eat or drink in the pool building.

Please inform Angelfish Swimmers immediately if anyone in your household presents any symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19.

Angelfish Swimmers will be following the NHS guidance for track and trace.

By attending your swimming lesson, you understand the potential risks involved and that Angelfish Swimmers cannot accept liability if a swimmer contracts the COVID-19 virus.  You understand that in some cases, social distancing may not be possible due to the safety of our swimmers outweighing the risk.  It is down to the teachers’ discretion on when they feel the need to break social distancing guidelines.

If we are forced into future local lockdowns or told we have to close the pool, we will be unable to offer refunds, but will endeavour to offer catch-up lessons, where possible.

CANCELLATION POLICY

If you are unable to attend your lesson for whatever reason, we will not be able to offer a refund or credit.  However, space allowing, we will offer a replacement catch-up lesson.

If you are no longer able to swim with Angelfish Swimmers, we require that you provide 4 weeks’ notice. Any late cancellations will incur a £10 admin fee, unless there is a waiting list and your space can be filled.

CONSENT

You agree to take full responsibility for yourself and your swimmer(s), in addition to any other siblings present at the pool whilst attending swimming lessons with Angelfish Swimmers.

You give permission for your details to be shared with NHS Track and Trace.

Booking

Angelfish Swimmers run 3 courses a year, with regular breaks in line with school holidays, bank holidays, Easter and Christmas. Term details are always available on our course dates page on the website. Courses may be booked via telephone or email. Customers will have 7 days to make payment by Direct Debit, bank transfer or cheque following receipt of lesson confirmation and course fees which are sent as an invoice via email.

Refunds and cancellations

Following booking, Angelfish Swimmers are under no obligation to refund or transfer your money in the event that you are unable to attend part of or the entire course. However, a discretionary full or partial refund, less a £20 administration fee, may be possible if there are customers on the waiting list who are able to take the place.

If the course is being paid for by someone other than yourself, you are responsible for informing that person of our payment policies, deadlines, etc. and relaying any communication with regard to rebooking or payments of any sort. We regret that we are unable to offer an alternative for missed lessons. In the event of a pool closure due to unforeseen circumstances, we will endeavour, where possible, to re-schedule and/or re-locate your lesson. In this instance, Angelfish Swimmers are not responsible for any travel expenses incurred. If we are unable to re-schedule your lesson, we will issue a credit against your next term’s fees.

Should a lesson already be in progress or about to start and the pool has to be cleared due to a health and safety concern then Angelfish Swimmers are under no obligation to refund the lesson or part thereof.

At the end of every course we hold one week in reserve to provide added on lessons in case of pool closure. Please consider this as part of the term schedule.

Valuables and jewellery

All property left in changing rooms or on poolside, and all property (including prams) left in entrance halls, lobbies or outside, is left at your own risk. Angelfish Swimmers cannot accept any responsibility for the loss or damage of any personal possessions. Please remove all jewellery (except wedding rings) before entering the water.

Medical conditions

It is the customer’s responsibility to inform Angelfish Swimmers of any existing medical conditions for any persons taking part in the swimming lessons including parent, carer, or the child. You agree to inform Angelfish Swimmers of any changes, including pregnancy, as soon as you are aware of them. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

Illness

Should any participant child or adult develop any known or suspected medical condition please consult your doctor before attending the lesson and inform Angelfish Swimmers in writing. All information received is treated in confidence and with sensitivity. Never bring your child swimming if they have any illness such as an ear infection, diarrhoea, chicken pox, impetigo, conjunctivitis or a bad cold. Please wait until your doctor has given the all-clear before returning to lessons. In the instance of sickness and diarrhoea your child must have been clear of all symptoms for at least 48 hours before attending a lesson.

Nappies and changing

All babies and toddlers who are not yet toilet trained must wear a neoprene swim nappy (such as the Happy Nappy from Splash About) over their usual swimming nappy to prevent leakage. Angelfish Swimmers reserve the right to refuse entry to any child who is not suitably attired. Angelfish Swimmers require all parents/carers to change their babies on the floor using a suitable changing mat. Do not use any raised areas such as benches or tables. This is to prevent babies and toddlers from rolling onto the floor from high surfaces which can easily happen. Please take all your used nappies away with you unless a clearly marked bin has been provided. Never leave nappies in an open bin (including those within the venue grounds).

Adverse weather

Angelfish Swimmers are under no obligation to refund lessons that may be missed due to local adverse weather. We regret that we are unable to offer a refund or rescheduling of lessons in the event of adverse conditions local to yourselves preventing you from attending a scheduled class.

Withdrawal of service

Angelfish Swimmers may, at their own discretion, withhold the right to refuse entry to a customer to their lessons if it is felt that the customer’s behaviour is unreasonable or threatening. In this event no refund can be given.

Health and safety: pool/poolside

Outer footwear and prams must be stored in the shoe racks or baskets on entry to the building or parked considerately inside the doors. Prams are not permitted on poolside or in changing rooms. Please use blue overshoes (if available) or go barefoot.

For reasons of hygiene please make an effort to shower both yourself and your child before entering the water. Removing body lotions and perfumes etc. before swimming contributes significantly to maintaining water quality. Angelfish Swimmers politely request that customers keep poolside noise down to a minimum so that all lessons can take place in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Please be ready poolside at least 5 mins before your lesson is scheduled to start and always wait to be invited into the pool by your teacher.

Parents/carers are responsible for the supervision of any children they bring at all times, on poolside, in the changing rooms and on the pool premises. Children should always be under the direct supervision of an adult. No person is permitted to run on wet surfaces such as the poolside. Angelfish Swimmers reserve the right to ask anyone to leave the poolside at any time on health and safety grounds. Only one adult is permitted in the pool at a time with each child, however we are happy for other members of your family, friends, or child minders to bring your child to lessons. Anyone new to the class must let the instructor know at the beginning of the session, so they can provide the extra help and advice that will be needed.

Drinks, food and snacks must be kept to a minimum and no rubbish or crumbs should be left behind.  Use the bins provided for all waste and ask should you need to use a dustpan and brush.

Teachers

Angelfish Swimmers strive for continuity in lessons. However, we may need to change a teacher from time to time in case of illness or for training purposes. Angelfish Swimmers will give advance warning when this happens.

Exclusion of liability

We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death and personal injury. In the absence of any proven negligence, lack of due diligence or breach of duty by the instructor(s) or Angelfish Swimmers, all participants including adults, children, and spectators, take part at their own risk.

Car parking

Combe Ridge pool, Bath - there is on-street parking on either Church Road or Beechwood Road.  Belmont Road and Summer Lane should be avoided as they are extremely narrow.

Fosse Way School pool, Radstock - there is on-street parking on Longfellow Road, immediately outside the school.

See our pools section of the website for the full addresses of all three pools and information on how to access each site.
